Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde (Am Tierpark 125, 10319 Berlin) is one of the two zoological parks in the German capital. It is the largest landscape zoo in Europe, where animals are kept in conditions close to their natural habitats.
Animals live in spacious open areas with water moats and artificial hills instead of traditional cages and enclosures, which also serve to separate habitats. Unique pavilions across the park include the Monkey House, Crocodile House, Alfred Brehm House, Giraffe House and Pachyderm House.
Large predators can be observed at close range, while zebras, tapirs and capybaras move almost alongside visitors. With its abundant vegetation, varied enclosure design and numerous winding paths, the Tierpark resembles a vast natural park. Its total area is 160 hectares, and it welcomes around 1.5 million visitors annually.
Against the backdrop of current social and economic challenges, the Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde administration aims to create a welcoming atmosphere filled with discovery and positive experiences.
Human affinity for animals encourages communication skills, empathy and awareness of the environment, which positively influences social interaction.
In February, a special promotion supported by Berliner Morgenpost and 105‘5 Spreeradio will take place. Ticket prices for Berlin’s zoos and the Berlin Aquarium remain unchanged. In addition, visitors aged 65 and older receive free admission to Tierpark Berlin-Friedrichsfelde.
Free tickets can be booked online or obtained at the ticket office. Visitors must present a photo ID to confirm their age.
On all February weekends at 1:00 p.m., the Tierpark’s popular excursion train departs for a 60-minute tour along changing routes, accompanied by live commentary from a guide.
Dr. Andreas Knieriem, director of Zoo Berlin and Tierpark Berlin, stated: “With this campaign, we want to thank the people and authorities of Berlin. The zoo is a place for all generations and has always received strong support from Berlin residents. This solidarity has been vital in the past and will remain so in the future.”
