The Stuttgart Christmas Market is considered one of the oldest and most atmospheric Christmas markets in Europe. In 2025, the market will open on November 26 and run until December 23, once again transforming the historic center of the Baden-Württemberg capital into a glowing winter village.
The main areas — Schlossplatz, Schillerplatz, Karlsplatz and Marktplatz — will be decorated with hundreds of lights, wooden stalls and festive installations. As every year, the elaborately decorated roofs of the stalls will be among the main highlights, competing for the annual decoration award.
More than 250 stalls will offer Christmas ornaments, handmade crafts, ceramics, jewelry, candles, gingerbread and traditional regional gifts. The food selection includes Swabian specialties such as sausages, potato pancakes, roasted chestnuts, Flammkuchen, sweet pretzels and, of course, hot mulled wine served in collectible mugs.
A significant part of the market is the rich musical program, featuring choirs, brass bands, school ensembles and orchestras performing daily on several stages. Evening concerts on Schlossplatz are especially popular, combining live music with festive lighting.
Children can enjoy the dedicated Kinderland, offering a Christmas train, a special post station operated by “little angels,” small carousels, craft workshops and meetings with Saint Nicholas.
Karlsplatz will once again host the traditional Antiques Market, where visitors can purchase vintage postcards, books, porcelain and rare decorative objects.
The Stuttgart Christmas Market has a long history, with the earliest written mentions dating back to 1692, making it one of Germany’s oldest holiday markets. The organizers emphasize that the event aims to preserve historic traditions while meeting modern sustainability standards through recyclable packaging, energy-efficient lighting and support for local artisans.
More than 3.5 million visitors from Germany and abroad are expected in 2025. With its central location, excellent transport connections and extensive program, the Stuttgart Christmas Market remains one of the most important symbols of the Advent season in the region.
