Freimarkt Bremen 2025 – Germany’s oldest fair returns this autumn
Bremen’s most famous celebration, the Freimarkt, returns this autumn from October 17 to November 2, 2025. It is considered the oldest and largest fair in northern Germany, attracting millions of visitors every year.
The Freimarkt was first mentioned in 1035, originally as a medieval trading fair. Over the centuries, it has evolved into a huge festival of joy, combining entertainment, tradition, and gastronomy.
The main site on Bürgerweide features hundreds of attractions — roller coasters, Ferris wheels, food stalls, and beer tents with live music. Guests can taste regional specialties such as grilled almonds, sausages, and smoked fish sandwiches.
A highlight of the event is the grand parade on October 25, with decorated floats, marching bands, and costumed performers moving through Bremen’s city center.
The Freimarkt also includes a family zone with shows for children, workshops, and fireworks every weekend. In the evening, the area turns into a lively meeting place filled with lights and laughter.
For 2025, organizers have focused on sustainability: eco-friendly lighting, waste recycling, and local sourcing are among the key initiatives.
The Freimarkt Bremen continues to embody the city’s spirit — freedom, hospitality, and tradition — making it one of Germany’s most cherished cultural festivals.
